MC-PowerFlow X

The concrete admixture for reliable workability with sustainable cements, recycled materials and challenging aggregates.

Recycled Aggregates – aggregates from demolition

Aggregates account for the largest volume fraction of concrete. The construction industry predominantly sources them from natural resources. These include sand and gravel, which are extracted from gravel pits or through dredging, as well as natural stone, which is quarried by drilling or blasting. A significantly more sustainable approach is the use of recycled aggregates.

The problem of higher water absorption

Replacing natural aggregates

Recycled aggregates are produced from processed materials recovered from the demolition of buildings and structures. They can replace conventional natural aggregates and thus contribute to conserving resources. Recycled aggregates have a higher water absorption capacity than natural aggregates. This needs to be taken into account when designing the concrete mix in order to achieve the desired concrete properties.

Why use MC-PowerFlow X with recycled aggregates?

Cross-section of concrete containing recycled aggregates

High-quality concrete despite recycled aggregates

The rough surfaces and increased water absorption of recycled aggregates make fresh concrete more difficult to process. MC-PowerFlow X compensates for these limitations due to its completely new chemical composition. When added to the concrete first, it coats the rough surface structure of the recycled aggregates, allowing subsequent admixtures to regain their full effectiveness. This makes concrete containing recycled aggregates just as easy to process as concrete made with natural aggregates, without compromising consistency or performance.

Application example

The graphic clearly shows the negative influence of recycled aggregates on concrete or mortar. In this example, the performance of slump retention system for ready-mix concrete was tested. MC-PowerFlow evo 580 was used, which maintains a slump retention in conventional concrete for over 90 minutes. When recycled aggregates are used, the flow properties decrease significantly. By adding MC-PowerFlow X, the desired slump retention can be restored with precision.
