The project focuses on both technical investments and organisational measures. One current key project is the planning of the first photovoltaic system at the Kruppwald Süd site. Following extensive structural assessments of the roof and detailed engineering work, a decision on implementation is expected to be made later this year. The system would make an important contribution to generating electricity from renewable energy sources for the company’s own use.

Electricity saved, CO₂ emissions reduced

The modernisation of the company’s internal compressed-air supply system has already been successfully completed. By replacing the existing equipment with powerful, adjustable compressors, up to 400,000 kWh of energy can be saved each year. This reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 140 t annually. In addition, the team is continuing to optimise the compressed-air network. By dividing it into separate supply zones, individual areas can be switched off outside production hours, thereby preventing unnecessary energy losses. Another objective is to reduce the so-called base load, meaning the energy consumed outside production and business hours. Internally organised energy audits are used to identify potential savings, for example in lighting, monitors, printers, and other devices that remain in continuous operation. These efforts are supported by internal awareness campaigns and information posters encouraging employees to use energy more consciously.

The project demonstrates that sustainability at MC is advanced not only through major investments, but also through many small measures in everyday working life. The combination of technical optimisation, renewable energy, and the active involvement of employees makes an important contribution to reducing energy consumption, costs, and CO₂ emissions.
